About Jackie Broadhurst
Jackie Broadhurst of Denver, Colorado began playing pool when she was three years old. Her father, a nuclear engineer, taught her the fundamentals and bought her first pool cue. After graduating college, she put her biology career on hold to pursue billiards full time. She selected Tom Ross to be her coach on her quest to win a national championship. On her first attempt, she won the 2003 Billiard Congress of America’s (BCA) Women’s 8-Ball out of 497 women and the Trick Shot Championship in Las Vegas, NV. In her view, the true winner was not decided in those competitions, since men and women held separate tournaments. “Gender has nothing to do with one’s ability to play,” says Jackie. “All tournaments should be based solely on skill not on sex.” In 2004, Inside Pool described her as “a lone ranger” because she was the first and only female to compete in various national events. To her dismay, the APA, BCA and the U.S. Open events were suddenly closed to women. The IPT has given her new hope for wide-open competition among both men and women. Being selected to play in the International Pool Tour is a dream come true for Jackie. She is looking forward to competing at the highest level with both men and women. Currently, she is following an intense practice routine under instructor, Robert McCullough, and coach, David Hughes. She also enjoys giving lessons, doing exhibitions and raising money for charity. Her training devices are coming soon on her website at www.theangelofbilliards.com.
