About Ray Martin
Ray Martin’s world titles in straight pool in 1971, 1974, and 1978 make him one of only seven players in the twentieth century to win three or more world 14.1 titles. He has many 9-ball tournament wins to his credit as well, including the 1980 Ceasar’s Tahoe Invitational, the 1981 ESPN King of the Hill, and the 1983 Music City Open. While concentrating more today on teaching than playing, Martin is still a threat in straight pool tournaments, finishing fourth and fifth in the 1992 and 1993 BCA US Opens. In collaboration with Rosser Reeves, Martin wrote “The 99 Critical Shots in Pool” (1977). Ray, a 1994 inductee into the Billiards Congress of America Hall of Fame, is a resident of Largo, Florida, and remains active on the tournament circuit. Recently Ray finished second in the Seminole Indian Tribe Senior Event. Currently Ray devotes much of his time to instructing new and seasoned players in the art of pool. Many of the Pinellas league members have already taken advantage of Ray's expertise and have benefited greatly from the new skills and shot-making techniques they have learned.
